How to Stay Motivated and Make Healthy Choices: Health Affirmations

Health affirmations are positive statements that we tell ourselves to increase our motivation and encourage healthy choices. They are a great way to keep us focused on our goals and help us stay on track when temptation strikes.

In this blog post, we will discuss the benefits of health affirmations and provide tips for how you can start using them in your own life!

The other day I was listening to a Rob Dial podcast. The topic was Three Steps to Breaking Down Mental Barriers.

He was explaining that there was this guy who couldn’t run more than 5 miles. He was introduced to Chadd Wright (read more about him here), and he went from running 5 miles to running over 100 miles in a day.

Isn’t that shocking?

One of the first things that helped him make this shift was repeating aloud throughout the run, “I will never quit.”

This is significant because it shows that our bodies react to the voice in our heads. So, if you’re constantly saying negative things to yourself, such as “I’m tired,” “I can’t do this,” and so on, that’s what your body will respond to.

However, if you tell yourself, “I will never quit,” your body will work in that direction.

This demonstrates that most of the time, it is NOT a physical barrier that is impeding us, but rather a mental barrier.

The good news is that WE CAN REGAIN CONTROL OF OUR MINDS.

How?

One thing you can do is start practicing Positive Affirmations.

Let’s quickly go over what affirmations are in the first place.

What Are Positive Affirmations?

Positive affirmations can help you shift your mindset and overcome self-sabotaging thoughts to live a better life.

‘Change your beliefs, change your life.’

So, if you are constantly engaging in negative self-talk or limiting beliefs, you can use affirmations to help you re-program your mind for success.

Affirmations can be used for several purposes, including:

What are health affirmations, and how do they work?

We live in an era where health and wellness are at the forefront of society. We’re constantly bombarded with messages telling us that our wellbeing matters, but it isn’t always easy to maintain one’s own wellbeing.

Staying motivated is one of the most difficult challenges we face when it comes to our health. Many things can get in the way of our health-related goals—for example, temptation or discouragement from family or friends who may tempt you off track.

When faced with temptation or discouragement, it can be challenging to maintain motivation to eat well, exercise, and make healthy choices.

That is where affirmations about health come into play.

What are health affirmations?

Health affirmations are positive statements about our health that we repeat to ourselves regularly. They assist us in staying focused on health.

Health affirmations help us see our health goals as positive choices rather than sacrifices to be made at the expense of other things in life.

Health Affirmations can also be used when we’re sick or recovering from an illness and need extra motivation to get better.

How do health affirmations work?

When you incorporate health affirmations into your life, you’re actually rewiring your brain. Repeating affirmations about health helps to create new neuronal pathways that will eventually lead to better health habits.

In other words, the more you say these affirmations, the easier it will be for you to make healthy choices without even thinking about it!

By repeating affirmations about health, you’re telling your subconscious mind that you want to be healthy and that you’re worth taking care of. This helps to break the negative thought patterns that may have kept you from making healthy choices in the past.

You can start to build more positive belief systems and train your brain to think differently about your body by replacing negative thoughts about your health with positive thoughts on a daily basis. Health affirmations are a really great way to do this!

Are affirmations science-based?

That is a valid question, and the answer is: it depends. Some affirmations are based on scientific fact, while others are more rooted in spiritual belief or personal experience. But either way, they can be effective tools for change.

When you recite affirmations about health every day, you’re essentially programming your mind to think differently about health and wellness. That can help you make healthier choices from a place of love and respect, rather than fear or self-judgment.

Health affirmations work because they help change the way you think about your health.

Studies have shown that the more positive your thoughts are about your health, the more likely you are to make healthy choices and stick with them over time.

One study found that participants who had written affirmations about health for eight weeks made significantly healthier lifestyle choices than those who didn’t write affirmations. They also had lower levels of stress and anxiety and reported feeling more confident about their ability to make healthy choices.

Another study shows that when you recite health affirmations, your brain begins to release serotonin, which is known as the “happy hormone.” That can help improve your mood and make it easier to stay motivated when making healthy choices. Hence, affirmations for health are an excellent way to improve your health habits.

So, if you’re looking for a way to stay motivated and make healthier choices, health affirmations could be worth a try.

There is actually a lot of science behind the power of affirmations.

How can health affirmations help you stay healthy and enable you to recover from illness?

We all know that our bodies do a lot for us, but it’s easy to take these things for granted when we’re healthy. Affirmations help remind you of the excellent work your body does and can give motivation in tough times or moments by keeping them top-of-mind constantly!

When you’re sick, it’s even more important to prioritize your health. Health affirmations can help you maintain your motivation and positivity! They’ll also help you achieve any goals you set for your illness recovery—so say them often (and repeatedly) until they become a part of who you are.

The benefits of health affirmations and the importance of repeating them every day

There’s a lot of power in affirmations. Repeating them every day helps to plant the seeds for change. The more you say them, the more you’ll start to believe them. And when you believe them, you’ll begin to see results.

Tips for choosing the right health affirmations for you.

When choosing affirmations about health, it is important to find ones that resonate with you.

Find affirmations that speak to you, speak to your heart, and resonate with your beliefs. When you find the right affirmations, they’ll be more effective in helping you achieve your goals.

Here are some tips for choosing health affirmations. Choose health affirmations that are:

  • Positive and motivating.
  • Relevant to your health goals.
  • Something you can believe in.
  • Easy to remember.
  • Actionable.

How to Create and use Health Affirmations

Here you will find six tips for creating Daily Positive Affirmations more efficiently.

With regards to how to use them, I have two methods:

  • writing them down and
  • repeating them in my head.

What I discovered worked for me was to write them down in the morning (I use an app) and then repeat them in my head during my meditation and, sometimes even before going to bed.

Another method I’ve found useful is to write them on sticky notes and place them somewhere visible where you can see them throughout the day. I wrote down three affirmations and pinned them to my workstation so I could repeat them throughout the day.

You could also stick them on your bathroom mirror, refrigerator, or laptop. It doesn’t really matter where you put them as long as you see and repeat them throughout the day.

Another great tip I received was to repeat healthy affirmations while engaging in physical activity.

It’s the same as the guy I mentioned earlier who went from running 5 miles to running 100 miles in a day simply by saying “I will never quit!” over and over.

So, for example, if you’re in a HIIT class and you’re tired and about to give up, try repeating a positive health affirmation, such as “I am worthy of a healthy body and a healthy life, I can do this!” And you’ll be surprised at how much more strength you’ll feel.

During the same podcast, Rob Dial made another excellent point: when we think we’ve reached our limit, we’re actually only operating at 40% of our full potential.

Our brain apparently has a mechanism that makes us feel like we’re at our limit for safety reasons, so we don’t hurt ourselves, but in reality, we’re only at 40% of our full capacity.

So, the next time you’re at the gym or doing something and considering quitting, repeat a positive affirmation and see what happens. I tried it myself, and it does make a difference.

The truth is that when you read and repeat these affirmations every day, you’ll begin to form a healthy relationship with your body and make better choices from a place of love and respect.

Also, when we write down our thoughts or feelings, we put them out into the universe, making them more likely to come true.
