how to visualize your highest self

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably looked in the mirror and wondered who the heck you are and what you’re supposed to do with your life. We’ve all been there – feeling lost, confused, and uncertain of our purpose.

But what if I told you that the answer lies within you? That there is a way to connect with your highest self and discover what you’re meant to do in this world.

It sounds pretty far-fetched, I know. But bear with me – because this technique has the power to change your life for the better.

It all starts with getting to know ourselves on a deeper level:

From there, we can begin to make choices that align with our highest purpose. It’s a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, but it’s so worth it when we finally find our way back home to ourselves.

So, what is this magical technique? It’s called visualization. And it’s a powerful tool that can help you create the life you want. You can read more here on Future Self Visualization: How to Use This Technique to Create the Life You Want

Visualization can also be used to visualize your highest self; you imagine what she would be like – what her thoughts, emotions, and actions would be. Then, you try to embody that version of yourself.

You might be thinking, “How in the world am I supposed to do that?” But don’t worry – it’s not as difficult as it sounds. And I’m going to walk you through six simple steps for visualizing your highest self.

But first, let’s begin by understanding what “the highest self” means and how do we connect with our true purpose?

So, what does ” highest self ” mean?

The “highest self” is referenced a lot in contemporary spiritual talk. It seems like every new age book or article talks about this concept. But what exactly does a highest self look like, and how can we identify it?

Disclaimer: I don’t want this website to be affiliated with anything spiritual (despite my own views). So, while the term “highest self” is associated with numerous faiths, it is not the focus of this post; instead, I’d like to focus on the scientific side of it.

If you were at your best, this is who you would be.

Well, if you go onto Google and search for it, you will find a lot of different answers according to the type of website you enter. Because, as I said before, the term “highest self” is associated with different faiths.

But let us focus on the scientific part of it, and then you can apply any faith you’re comfortable with to it.

So what is your higher self meaning?

Your higher self might be thought of as an idealized version of oneself. If you were at your best, this is who you would be.

So, my highest self is the person I strive to be.

We all have a highest self, but not everyone is aware of it or knows how to connect with it.

What does visualize your highest self means?

So, as we said, your highest self is the best version of yourself; it’s who you are at your highest potential.

When I think about my highest self, I imagine myself at my best. I imagine myself as kind and compassionate but also strong and confident. I’m a good listener, but I also know when to speak up. I can handle whatever life throws at me, and I am constantly growing and learning.

That is who I am at my best.

For me, visualizing my highest self is a way of tapping into my inner strength and wisdom. Whenever I face a challenging situation or feel lost, I close my eyes and visualize myself as my higher self. Indeed, that helps me remember who I really am (or who I am aiming to become) and what I am capable of.

Notice how I used the term “imagine” myself? Because in reality, what am I really doing? Using my imagination to envision my best self.

So, how to visualize your highest self?

In my opinion and experience, the best way to connect with your highest self is through visualization.

I’m sure you’ve heard of visualization before. If not, according to Cambridge dictionary, the definition of visualization is a way of using your imagination to see something or someone in your mind.

The interesting thing is that we can use this tool to visualize who we want to become.

This may sound a bit far-fetched, but hear me out.

Visualization is the act of creating mental images in your mind. When you visualize, you are essentially training your brain to see what you want to achieve as if it has already happened.

It essentially means using your imagination to see in your mind who you want to become and what you want to achieve in real life.

When you visualize, you are tapping into the power of your mind. Our mind is incredibly powerful, and when we use its power to focus on what we want to achieve, we increase our chances of achieving it.

How?

Well, several neurological studies have demonstrated that visualization stimulates activity in particular brain areas. What’s even more interesting is that according to Dr. David R Hamilton, “what you imagine to be happening is actually happening as far as your brain is concerned.”

This is due to the fact that when we visualize our desired outcome, our brain regions react in the same way they would if we were actually performing the action. This is because our brains cannot distinguish between reality and imagination.

Wait what?

Yes, you read that correctly!

When I heard about the power of visualization, I was blown away! The thought that we might use our imaginations to create the reality we chose was particularly enticing.

Armed with this knowledge, I decided to start practicing visualization in my own life. Thus, I began to visualize my highest self on a regular basis. Every day, I would take a few minutes to close my eyes and imagine myself achieving my goals and living my best life. Visualizing myself as someone who is free, happy, and healthy.

At first, it felt strange to be doing this exercise, but it became part of my daily routine after a while. And ever since I resigned from my job, started this blog, and I’ve been the happiest I’ve been in a long time (of course, I did a lot of other things as well, such as starting counseling, started my personal growth journey through practicing self-discovery and self-love, but visualizing was undoubtedly crucial to the process).

Through visualization, I have been able to manifest many of my desires into reality. Whenever I feel doubtful, or like I can’t achieve something, I remember how powerful my mind is and how much it can help me if I use it correctly.

If you’re still not convinced, here are several people who claim their success to the power of visualization.

Steps on how to visualize your higher self:

#1 Start by getting into a relaxed state.

First, get into a comfortable position and close your eyes. Then, take a few deep breaths and allow your body to relax.

You can do this through guided meditation, deep breathing, or whatever works for you. The goal is to get yourself into a state where you can really focus and let your imagination run wild.

#2 Get clear on who your higher self is.

Secondly, think really deeply about what you want or who you want to become. That means taking some time to really think about who you want to be and what your highest potential looks like.

Start by asking yourself what you want in life and what kind of person you want to be?

Who are you?

A woman in business? An online entrepreneur? Are you an artist? A wife? A mother? A global citizen?

Whatever form your highest self takes, the important thing is to get clear on who the person is.

If you’re stuck on who you want to be, it might help to think about how you want to feel instead.

Do you want to feel more successful? Calmer? More helpful?

Once you have a sense of the feelings you want to cultivate, you can get a clearer picture of the person you need to become. After all, how we feel is often a reflection of our actions and thoughts.

So, if you want to feel more successful, for example, it stands to reason that you’ll need to start thinking and acting like a successful person. Of course, this isn’t always easy.

But by visualizing your highest self, you can begin to get a better sense of what it will take to get there. And that’s an excellent first step on the path to becoming the person you truly want to be.

If you need to, write down a highly detailed description of who you want your highest self to be (I highly recommend it).

#3 Start visualizing.

Visualize your higher self in as much detail as possible. See yourself as your higher self (the one from the previous step).

Consider what kind of lifestyle you want to live, the type of relationships you want to have, and what you want to achieve.

Questions you might ask yourself:

  • What would your ideal self look like?
  • How do you carry yourself?
  • What are you doing?
  • How would you behave?
  • What would you think?
  • How do you spend your day?
  • What do you eat?
  • How would you speak and act?

You don’t need the whole picture all at once. But it would be beneficial to have a clear idea of who you want to be.

#4 Embody it.

When you visualize your highest self, it is helpful to think about what qualities or characteristics you would like to embody. See yourself embodying all of the positive qualities of the higher self you admire and aspire to have.

For example, you may want to focus on qualities such as strength, wisdom, compassion, or love.

Allow yourself to feel what it would be like to be this person. Visualize your highest self in as much detail as possible. It may be helpful to imagine yourself in different scenarios and how you would handle them as your highest self.

For example, if someone cuts you off in traffic, how would your highest self react? Would they honk their horn and yell obscenities, or would they remain calm and understand that the other driver may be having a bad day?

The more you practice visualizing and embodying your highest self, the easier it will be to access those qualities in your everyday life.

As we said, you don’t need the whole picture all at once, but it would be beneficial to have a clear idea. Imagine how it would feel to live that lifestyle and embody those qualities and use this vision to motivate you in your journey of self-discovery.

#5 Use all of your senses.

You know how people say that you should “dress for the job you want, not the job you have?” The same goes for visualization. You want to see yourself achieving your highest self, living your best life, and being the best version of yourself.

And how do you do that?

You’ll want to use all of your senses. That’s right, all five of them.

You’ve got sight, smell, touch, hearing, and taste.

Can you smell what it is you want? Can you taste it? What does it sound like? How does it make you feel?

Now, some people might say that they’re more visual learners and that they don’t need to involve their other senses. But trust me, applying all of your senses will make the visualization process much more effective. And not only that, but it will also help you understand the “why” behind your visualization.

Why is it that you want to be your highest self? What will achieving that goal do for you?

Indeed, the more of your five senses you can incorporate through this visualizing process, the better. Your emotions are inextricably linked to your senses, so when you attach all of your senses to the visualization process, the “why” becomes clearer because you create an emotional investment.

So, go ahead and close your eyes (sight), take a deep breath in through your nose (smell), and let your imagination run wild.

#6 Be grateful.

Last but not least, end your visualization with gratitude. Thank the universe, or whatever you believe in, for helping you achieve your highest potential. Be grateful for the process, even when it’s tough.

By having an attitude of gratitude, you open yourself up to even more possibilities, and good things flow your way.

Stay in this visualization for as long as you can and really immerse yourself in the experience. The more real you can make it feel, the better. When you finish, take a few deep breaths and open your eyes.

Tips and tricks for staying connected with your higher self.

Now that you have a clear visualization of your higher self, it’s time to start manifesting them in your everyday life.

Here are a few tips and tricks that have worked for me:

Make time each day to connect with your higher self.

One of the best ways to connect with your higher self is to spend some time each day visualizing yourself as your ideal self.

See yourself living the lifestyle you want to live and imagine how it would feel. Embody the qualities you want to possess, and see yourself already living that life.

Spend just a few minutes each day doing this, and you’ll start to notice a difference in how you feel. You’ll be more connected with your higher self, and you’ll be more motivated to make the changes necessary to live that ideal life. So go ahead and give it a try. It just might change your life.

Believe in yourself and know that you are capable of anything.

Another thing that will help you stay connected with your higher self is to believe in yourself. When you have faith in yourself, anything is possible.

No matter what life throws your way, always remember to believe in yourself. Every single person on this earth is capable of overcoming any obstacle if they set their mind to it.

Believe that you can achieve anything you set your sights on and put in the work, and success will be yours. When you know deep down that you are capable of greatness, there is no force strong enough to stand in your way. So believe in yourself and know that you are capable of anything.

Take small steps each day to live the lifestyle you want.

While your higher self may seem like a distant dream, it’s actually closer than you think. One way to start moving towards your higher self’s vision for your life is to take small steps each day.

These small steps will help you to gradually move closer to your higher self’s vision for your life. And as you do, you’ll begin to notice positive changes in your life – changes that will help you to reach your fullest potential.

Use your visualization as a tool to motivate you on your journey of self-discovery. When you feel like giving up, remember what is possible for your life and use that to push through. Remember, every journey begins with a single step.

Use affirmations.

Another way to stay connected with your higher self is to use affirmations.

Affirmations are positive statements that you say to yourself to program your mind for success. For example, you might say something like “I am healthy and prosperous” or “I am attracting abundance into my life.”

By repeating these affirmations regularly, you can retrain your mind to focus on positive thoughts and manifest your desires into reality. So the next time you’re feeling disconnected from your higher self, try using some affirmations and see how they help you connect back with your inner wisdom and power.

Live each day with intention.

Setting intention each morning is a great way to stay connected with your higher self. But what exactly does that mean?

Basically, it means choosing one or two qualities or emotions that you would like to pursue as your highest self and then trying to embody them in every action during the day.

For example:

  • If you want to feel more peaceful, you might make an effort to be more patient and calm in your interactions with others.
  • Or if you want to feel more energized, you might make an effort to move your body more and get outside in nature.

By living with intention each day, you will gradually move closer and closer to your higher self’s vision for your life.

Of course, it’s not always easy to know what your highest self would do. But that’s where courage comes in. It takes courage to let go of our old patterns and embrace new, unknown territory. But it’s worth it because each step you take towards your highest self brings you closer to living the life you were meant to live. So don’t be afraid to take a few risks and venture into the unknown. Your future self will thank you for it.

If you follow these tips, you’ll be well on your way to manifesting your higher self in your everyday life. Remember to stay connected with your vision and take small steps each day. Visualizing your higher self is a powerful way to connect with your true potential and create the life you want.

Q1: What if I don’t know what my higher self looks like?

A: That’s okay! Visualizing your higher self is a process of discovery. Start by thinking about the qualities that you want to embody. Do you want to be more confident? More successful? Healthier? And how do you want to feel? Calmer? More productive? Happier?

Visualize yourself as the best version of yourself that you can be. See yourself living the life you want to live. And imagine what it would feel like to live that lifestyle, see yourself already living it, and embody those qualities. Use your visualization as a tool to motivate you on your journey of self-discovery.

Q2: What if I have trouble Visualizing?

A: If you have trouble visualizing, it’s okay to start small. If you can’t visualize the whole picture, begin by visualizing one small part. As you take these small steps, you will see the bigger picture more clearly. Allow yourself to really feel what it would be like to live that life.

Q3: What are some other ways to connect with my higher self?

A: Some other ways to connect with your higher self might be through journaling, reading inspirational books or articles, listening to motivational speeches, or attending workshops or classes. Find what works best for you and make it a part of your daily routine.

Q4: How often should I visualize my higher self?

A: There is no set amount of time that you should visualize your higher self; just do it as often as you can. The more you focus on your higher self, the more likely it will manifest in your reality.

Q5: Can you give some examples of what you mean by “small steps?”

A: Yes! For example:

  • If you want to be healthier, start by making healthy choices each day like quitting smoking, eating healthy meals, or perhaps setting a goal to exercise daily.
  • If you want to be more financially successful, start making smart financial decisions, investing, and saving more than you spend.
  • If you want to have better relationships, start by spending more time with friends and family and set healthy boundaries.

Of course, it depends on your goals and intentions. Remember, the key is to take action towards your goals each day and visualize yourself as the best version of yourself that you can be.
