Limiting beliefs about money

Let’s begin with some of the most common limiting beliefs about money that I and many others have had our entire lives.

These money-limiting beliefs are primarily influenced by society, our parents/guardians or families, our friends, and so on.

Have you ever heard someone say something like this?

  • โ€œWe canโ€™t afford that,โ€
  • “It’s too expensive,”
  • “Money is the root of all evil,” or
  • “You just cannot be rich, it does not work like that”.

I’m sure you’ve all heard some variation of these statements at some point in your lives. I’m sure I did.

Growing up, my parents always told me that we didn’t have enough money to buy this or that, which I suppose was true a lot of the time. But this led me to believe that spending money on things other than necessities was bad. And I still find it difficult to spend money on myself because I see it as a waste of money because it isn’t something essential.

Now I realize that this caused me to have a scarcity mindset and that I subconsciously believed I didn’t deserve to spend that money on myself.

But the thing is the ease with which you can attract money is determined by how you think and believe about money. Keep in mind that if you don’t believe in money, it will never come to you. As a result, a scarcity mindset can effectively keep money away from you.

So, if you want to attract money into your life, the first step is to evaluate your money beliefs. You won’t get past the blocks if you don’t know what they are.

So, let’s review some of them:

#1 “Money is not important.”

This statement implies that money should not be important to us. But in reality, you can’t do much without money in today’s world (unless you own a farm, grow all of your food, and make all your clothes).

The truth is that money is required to help us meet our basic needs, such as food, water, and shelter. So it doesn’t make much sense to say that money isn’t essential.

Aside from basic needs, money is a powerful tool that helps us achieve our dreams and desires while also making our lives easier in a variety of ways. Aside from being a commodity, money is also used to help those in need.

#2 “Money cannot buy happiness.”

Although I can relate to some of this because I don’t believe that becoming wealthy will magically make you happy; if you are unhappy and poor and suddenly become rich, the only thing that changes is that you will be unhappy and rich.

However, I believe that if you are in the right frame of mind, money will increase your chances of living a meaningful and more comfortable life, and thus increase your chances of happiness.

Money is a powerful tool that, when used wisely, can take us to many happier times in our lives.

#3 “Rich people are bad.”

Many of us have been told that rich people cannot be trusted and that money brings out the worst in people. Of course, there will always be people who are constantly hungry for more and will do bad things due to their greed. However, be careful when generalizing.

Many rich people use their wealth to do extraordinary things like provide grants to non-profit organizations, donate to charities, and run programs to inspire and help those in need. So, no, not everyone who is rich and powerful is a bad person.

#4 “You cannot make money.”

This money-limiting belief was most likely instilled in us by our parents/guardians or families while they were attempting to teach us money management and money-saving skills.

This money-limiting belief, however, has nothing to do with money. It is entirely up to us whether we genuinely desire money or not. Release and let go of other people’s money stories. They are not your personal experiences. You have the opportunity to create your own!

Money will not enter your life unless you first welcome it with open arms in your heart.

#5 “Money does not grow on trees.”

You’d be fortunate if money started growing on trees for you, but money doesn’t work that way.

Even though money does not grow on trees, money can be found almost anywhere. Now, more than ever, we live in a world where anyone with access to the internet and online resources has the same opportunity as anyone else to make money.

So, no money does not grow on trees, but money is available to everyone if you look hard enough and work for it.

#6 “Money is the root of all evil.”

Money has no feelings, so it will never judge you or do anything evil to you or anyone else. It all depends on how you decide to use your money. Money is neither good nor bad; it is just money. It’s simply an exchange of energy.

So it is not money that is evil, but rather the actions of those who choose to use the money for malicious purposes.

#7 โ€œMoney is scarce.โ€

One of the most common money-limiting beliefs is that there isn’t enough money for everyone. If you believe there isn’t enough money to go around, you’ll get exactly that.

Recognizing that there is an abundance of resources flowing and that all you need to do is position yourself in the right channels will cause your actions to change very quickly.

If you believe that money is available to you, you will be more motivated to act and seek out opportunities to pursue your dreams and goals. If you find the right idea, people, or product, your financial life could change dramatically instantly.

So, a crucial mindset shift is realizing that money is abundant.

These are just a few of the limiting beliefs I (and many others) hold. However, I am attempting to change my subconscious thoughts through positive thinking to focus on abundance rather than scarcity.

If you identify with any of the above money limiting beliefs, don’t worry; this article is intended to help you reverse them so that you can attract money and abundance into your life!

So, how do we stop this self-sabotaging scarcity conversation?

By practicing Positive Affirmations.

What are positive affirmations?

Positive affirmations can help you shift your mindset and overcome self-sabotaging thoughts to live a better life.

‘Change your beliefs, change your life.’

If you are constantly engaging in negative self-talk, you can use Affirmations to help you re-program your mind for success.

Affirmations can be used for a number of purposes, including improving your self-esteem, improving your attitude toward your body image, improving your career or when changing career paths, helping you achieve your health goals, reducing stress and negative emotions associated with travel, and changing your money mindset.

What are money affirmations?

As mentioned earlier, when it comes to creating wealth, your mindset is key. If you believe that you can create abundance and prosperity, then you will be more likely to take the necessary steps to achieve it.

Money affirmations provide an alternative way of thinking about our problems or situations. Instead of focusing on negative thoughts or limiting beliefs (such as “I can never be rich”), you focus on positive thinking.

Why do Money affirmations Matter?

Because your words and thoughts have the power to shape your reality! If you repeatedly affirm that you are successful and wealthy, your mind will work towards this, and it will eventually become your truth.

How and why?

Reticular activating system (RAS)

Because of our RAS. This system in our brain filters out unnecessary information while allowing vital information to pass through. It filters the world through the criteria you set for it, which is shaped by your beliefs.

If you believe you are incompetent at money management, you will undoubtedly be incompetent. On the other hand, if you believe you are capable, you will most likely succeed.

The RAS helps you see what you want to see and thus influences your actions.

For example, if you repeatedly say, “I never have enough money,” your brain will conclude that these words are essential because you repeated them so many times. As a result, it prioritizes this information over other aspects of your life and looks for ways to demonstrate that it is correct.

But what if you repeatedly said, “I always have more than enough money”?

What would happen is that the positive affirmation plants a seed in your brain, and it will seek ways to demonstrate that you always have more than enough money.

Your reticular activating system (RAS) helps you prioritize what’s important to you. In other words, it determines what information gets into your consciousness and what does not.

How to use money affirmations?

There are numerous ways to incorporate money affirmations into your daily routine, but these are my personal favorites:

  • One method is to write them down in your journal every morning and recite them throughout the day or before going to bed.
  • Another option is to keep a list of powerful money affirmations in your phone or laptop that you can refer to as needed (please feel free to pin mine and use it later.)
  • You can also write down your money affirmations on sticky notes and place them in places where you will see them frequently, such as on your bathroom mirror, refrigerator, diary, or work desk.

The subconscious mind is very powerful and will work hard to make your affirmations a reality. If you repeatedly tell yourself:

  •  “I am rich”
  •  “Money flows to me easily and effortlessly”
  •  “I attract prosperity into my life”

The subconscious mind will believe it and start working on bringing these things into your reality. That can be very powerful!

Final thoughts

Money is a powerful tool that can assist you in achieving your goals and dreams. However, you can’t achieve your goals and objectives if you have limiting beliefs about money. So the first thing you should do is analyze your money-limiting beliefs.

When you understand how to use money positively, you open up a world of possibilities for yourself and your loved ones. Consider how much you could do for your family if you had enough money. How much you could share with them, and how much you could provide for your family and loved ones.

Furthermore, having a positive relationship with money provides you with more opportunities to make a difference in the world.

Repeating positive money affirmations can help you change your beliefs and, as a result, start making more of it. By repeating these affirmations regularly, you are telling your brain that you want to see more evidence of wealth and abundance in your life.

So, are you ready to begin using money affirmations to manifest the life you desire?

Which affirmation are you going to begin using today?
