Self-discovery journey
Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered who you are, why are you who you are, and what your purpose is? If so, you’re not alone.
We’ve all been there at some point – feeling lost, confused, and uncertain of our place in the world.
But what if I told you that the answer lies within you?
Yes, it’s true!
The key to discovering your true identity is within you.
All you need to do is go on a journey of self-discovery and exploration by asking yourself some questions.
Self-discovery is essential for everyone. It allows you to connect with your innermost thoughts and feelings and helps you understand who you are, why are you who you are, and what you want in life. It can be a challenging but rewarding journey. And a critical aspect of self-discovery is understanding your higher self.
What is your higher self?
If you google it, you’ll be amazed at how many varied replies you’ll get depending on the website you enter. Some say it’s your Guardian Angel, some say it’s the part of you that is closest to God, and others might say it’s the wisest part of you.
Disclaimer: I don’t want this website to be affiliated with anything spiritual (despite my own views). So, while the term “higher self” is associated with numerous faiths, it is not the focus of this post; instead, I’d like to focus on the scientific side.
So, what does it really mean to connect with your higher self?
I prefer to think of it as tapping into your highest potential—becoming the best possible version of yourself.
Your higher self is the part of you that knows what you are capable of and your true purpose in life.
When you connect with your higher self, you start seeing life from a different perspective. You begin to see the possibilities instead of the limitations. You start to believe in yourself and your ability to achieve anything you set your mind to.
When you connect with your higher self, you feel a sense of peace and calm. Because you know that everything is happening for a reason and that you are exactly where you are supposed to be.
In a nutshell, your higher self is the best version of yourself—the person you are meant to be. So, to succeed in life, it is crucial to be aware of who your higher self is and your potential.

Explore who you are
One of the first steps to understanding your higher self is to first get clear on who you are.
When I was younger, I never really took the time to get to know myself. I was always too busy chasing after things I thought would make me happy. But the more I got to know myself, the more I realized that those things were not what was truly important to me. And so, I started on a journey to discover myself and connect with my higher self.
This required me to do a lot of introspection and self-reflection. It isn’t always easy, but it is definitely worth it. Now that I have a better understanding of who I am and what I want in life, I can live a more purposeful life. And I am grateful for that.
So, take some time to get in touch with your values, needs, and desires.
- What makes you happy?
- What do you hope to achieve in life?
- Who do you aspire to be?
If you are still uncertain about who you are, you may start by answering these questions to help you understand yourself better:
Who are you?
This is a good question about where to start. Discovering who you really are is the key to success.
You must know yourself before figuring out who you want to become.
What are your passions and interests?
These can be anything you are passionate about, whether it is a hobby, an activity, or something you want to learn more about. By exploring your passions and interests, you can develop a better understanding of who you are and what makes you happy.
What are your values?
Your values are what you believe in and guide your actions. They can be anything from family to careers to relationships. By understanding your values, you can begin to make choices in your life that align with them. This will help you to live a more fulfilling and purposeful life.
What are your goals?
What do you want to achieve in life? These can be long-term or short-term goals, but they should be things that you are genuinely interested in and motivated to succeed in. By setting goals, you can create a road map for your life and start working towards something important to you.
What are some things that you would like to change about yourself?
This is another excellent place to explore because it can help you identify areas of your life that you would like to improve. Once you have recognized these areas, you can begin to work on them and make changes that will help you become the best version of yourself.

Powerful Questions to ask your higher self to help you figure out who you need to be to succeed in life!
Now that you have a better sense of who you are, it is time to connect with your higher self.
Your higher self is the part of you that knows what you really want in life. It is the part of you that is connected to your deepest desires and highest aspirations.
Unfortunately, many people never take the time to connect with their higher selves. They go through life on autopilot, not really knowing what they want or where they are going. But the truth is that the more self-aware you are, the easier it will be to connect with your higher self.
So take some time to get to know yourself better. Once you do, connecting with your higher self will be easy and natural.
As we said, your higher self is the best version of yourself—the person you are meant to be. So, it’s crucial to figure out who you want to become.
Because how can you become someone if you don’t know who they are?
If this is you and you’re still confused about who your higher self is, I’ve included some questions to ask your higher self to help you discover who you need to become to be the best version of yourself.
Start by asking yourself questions about the person you want to become.
- Do you want to be more confident, successful, or happy?
- Do you want to be healthier, have closer relationships, or make a difference in the world?
Once you have a clearer idea of who you want to be, start making small changes in your life to align with that vision. Over time, as you continue to grow and evolve, those changes will add up, and you’ll find yourself becoming more and more like the person you’re meant to be.
questions to ask yourself in order to discover your higher self
If you’re still not sure who you need to become to be the best version of yourself, consider the following eight questions:
#1. What does your higher self look like?
Close your eyes and visualize what you would look like.
- What are you wearing?
- Where are you?
- Are you happy?
- What is your energy like?
#2. What would your ideal day look like?
- What do you do when you wake up?
- Do you meditate? Journal?
- What do you do during the day?
- Do you exercise?
- What is your career like?
- What are your hobbies?
Try to be as specific as possible.
#3. What do you value and believe in?
This is a great question to get clear on what values and beliefs you’re holding on to and what needs to change to become your highest self.
Every decision we make is driven by our core values. Whether we realize it or not, our core values guide everything from the food we eat to the people we date. So, if you want to become your highest self, it’s important to make sure that your core values are aligned with who you want to become. Otherwise, you’ll be fighting an uphill battle.
Misalignment creates resistance, and if your top core value doesn’t match the goal you’re trying to achieve, it will be much harder to get there. So before setting out on any journey, it’s important to check in with yourselves and make sure that your core values are pointing you in the right direction. Otherwise, you might end up going around in circles.
This also applies to our belief system.
- What values and beliefs have been most important to you up until this point?
- What values and beliefs are you holding on to that are no longer serving you?
- What values and beliefs need to be at the top to best support who you want to become and achieve?
- What does your higher self believe in?
#4. How do you portray yourself? And how do you speak?
- How do you want to be seen and heard?
- What kind of message do you like to share with the world?
These are great questions to clarify how you want to show up in the world.
When you are clear about how you want to show up, it’s much easier to take steps towards that.
For example, if you want to be more confident, speaking kindly to yourself and building yourself up with positive affirmations would be a good place to start.
Another example, if you want to be seen as more compassionate, volunteering your time or donating to a cause you care about would be a good start.
#5. What kind of thoughts do you have daily?
What kind of thoughts do you have on a daily basis? If you’re like most people, you probably spend a lot of time listening to your inner critic.
For those who don’t know what’s your inner critic; it is that voice inside your head that’s always telling you that you’re not good enough. It’s the one that tells you that you’re not smart enough, strong enough, or pretty enough. Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s time to silence that voice! It’s time to start thinking like your higher self.
It’s no secret that our thoughts shape our reality. In fact, studies have shown that we have around 60 to 70,000 thoughts every single day and 90% of those thoughts are the same thoughts as the day before. So, if you’re not careful, your mind can become a broken record, playing the same negative thoughts on repeat. That’s why it’s so important to focus on empowering thoughts that will propel you towards success.
Here are some examples of the types of thought your higher self should be thinking daily:
- “I am capable of anything I set my mind to.”
- “I’m in control of my life and my destiny.”
- “Everything I need is within me.”
By filling your mind with positive affirmations, you’ll be well on your way to achieving your goals and manifesting your deepest desires.
So, if you want to live a life full of empowerment and success, make sure your higher self is doing the thinking and not your inner critic!
#6. What do you think about yourself?
How should you start talking to yourself to become your higher self?
How you talk to yourself matters. If you want to become your higher self, you need to start talking to yourself in a way that is positive and encouraging. You need to see your potential and believe in yourself.
This means being encouraging and affirming, instead of negative and self-defeating. It also means speaking kindly to yourself, instead of putting yourself down.
That doesn’t mean that you should never doubt yourself or be critical of yourself – but it does mean that you should be kind to yourself, and talk to yourself in a way that helps you see your potential and feel confident in yourself.
When you talk to yourself in this way, it helps to boost your confidence and belief in yourself. It also allows you to see your potential and know that you are capable of great things.
So, the next time you catch yourself talking badly about yourself, try to turn it around and say something positive instead. Fill your mind with positive, encouraging thoughts, and watch as your life changes for the better.
#7. What do your relationships with others look like?
If you want to be like your higher self, you need to take a good hard look at your current relationships. Are they healthy? Do they bring you joy? Do they make you feel good about yourself? If not, it’s time to make some changes.
If you want to have relationships that are more in line with your higher self, you need to start by setting some boundaries.
Whether it’s setting boundaries with your time, energy, or emotions, it’s important that you start taking care of yourself first. That means saying no to others when you need to, and standing up for yourself when you’re being disrespected.
It also means making an effort to be around people who make you feel good and who respect your boundaries. When you start making changes like these, you’ll notice that your relationships will begin to change too.
Finally, remember that you are in control of your own happiness. No one else can make you happy – only you can do that. So if you find yourself in a relationship that is no longer serving you, don’t be afraid to walk away from it. Your higher self will thank you for it.
#8. What do you need to let go of to become your highest self?
What is holding you back from achieving your goals?
You might need to let go of a few things to become your highest self.
For starters, you might need to let go of the past. The past is full of memories and experiences that can keep you from becoming your best self. If you’re constantly dwelling on the past, you’re not giving yourself the chance to move forward and grow.
You might also need to let go of your fears. Fear is natural, but it can often hold us back from taking risks and pursuing our dreams. If you want to become your highest self, you need to be willing to take risks and step outside of your comfort zone.
So, what do you need to let go of to become your highest self?
Take some time to reflect on that question and see what comes up for you. You might be surprised at what you have to let go of to reach your full potential.
If you’re still unclear about who your higher self is, the questions above will undoubtedly shed some light. The answers will help you in understanding what you need to do to become the best version of yourself.
You don’t need the whole picture all at once. But it would be beneficial to have a clear idea of who you want to be. Remember, your higher self is always there for you, so never give up on yourself!
How to connect with your higher self
If you’re like most people, you go through life on autopilot, never stopping to ask yourself important questions like “Why am I here?” and “What is my purpose in life?” But if you want to lead a more fulfilling and meaningful life, connecting with your higher self is essential to finding the answers to these questions.
